Stem Cell Transplant: Updates and New Developments For the first time since the introduction of high dose chemotherapy for breast cancer with bone marrow or stem cell transplants (HDC/BMT), patients and their physicians have data from scientific studies comparing this treatment to standard therapies. The new data come from five separate clinical trials. Preliminary summaries were released April 15, 1999, by the American Society of Clinical Oncologists. For further information and statements by organizations such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Y-Me, go to the following National Cancer Institute Web site:http://www.cancer.gov/clinicaltrials However, some breast cancer research study results have been questioned: |
